Fall is here, and so is the fun!

As fall begins to creep over the treetops in reds and golds, it brings with it many festivals and community events. These events provide you with a great chance to take advantage of the last few months of beautiful temperatures. Whether you’re seeking out ideas for a few family outings, unique date night ideas, or somewhere you can have some solo fun, events in Plano this fall that fit everyone’s interests and needs come in plenty. Here are a few of the great events that the whole community can get involved in this fall.

Grease!

This famous musical is set in the 1950s and follows a group of teenagers as they navigate romance, friendship, and change. The main plot focuses on Danny and Sandy, who have a summer romance but don’t seem compatible long term—Danny is a leather-clad bad boy, while Sandy is a studious goody two shoes. To make their romance work, they’ll need to cross clique lines or resign themselves to never moving past the single summer night they shared.

The musical ran for several years on Broadway and has since had success as a movie musical, as well as in many musical revivals. The show will take place in Plano each weekend from August 30 to September 8, but showtimes depend on the day. Tickets will range in price from $15 to $26. The show is recommended for ages 13 and up, as there are references to alcohol and smoking, as well as occasional swearing.

Farmer’s Market

Georgia’s Farmer’s Market will be hosting a citywide farmer’s market every Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Downtown Plano Arts District. They will offer a variety of fresh local fruits, vegetables, and other locally-produced items, such as honey and bread. There will be live music on occasion for you to enjoy as you wander the stalls. The event itself is free, costing only what you decide to spend at the various vendors. It’s a great way to get out and about with other members of the community and support local businesses.

The State Fair of Texas

The State Fair is an essential yearly event for the entire family, featuring a host of rides, educational tents on agriculture and animals, a petting zoo, and more. With plenty of food and contests, it offers more than enough to entertain your family for the entire day. The State Fair will be about 30 minutes outside of Plano, and will be in town from September 27 to October 20. Admission costs range from $16.50 to $45.00.

Courtyard Texas Music Series: Prophets and Outlaws

If you’re up for a little “Texas Soul,” this performance could be right up your alley. Prophets and Outlaws is a band that masterfully performs a mixture of blues, country, and rock music. The band has repeatedly reached the top of the music charts over the years, with multiple songs making it into the Top 20 on the Texas Country Music Chart. The concert will be at the Courtyard Theater on October 3 and will go from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Tickets will be on sale for $29.

Second Annual Plano Food and Wine Festival

Although there will be plenty of food and more than 100 wines at this festival, there will be a ton of other fun things to do with the family! There will be live music, and local businesses and artists will have stalls set up for you to browse through. Food and wine experts will demonstrate cooking or mixology techniques for those who are interested. Despite the fact that there will be wine, the festival is family-friendly, with plenty of events and stalls for people of all ages to enjoy. The festival is on October 5 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and is free unless you’d like to take part in the wine tasting, which costs $40. With this cost, you’ll get a pass to taste 20 wines and a commemorative wine glass to take home.

Plano International Festival

This lively festival is a great way for your entire family to enjoy experiencing and learning about other cultures. More than 100 cultures will be represented at the festival, which will include ethnic food, activities for your children to get involved in, music and dance performances, and more. The festival, which will take place on October 12 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Haggard Park in Downtown Plano Courtyard Theater, is completely free for your entire family. Parking is also free, allowing you to stay as long as you want without worrying about getting a ticket or your parking meter expiring.

Plano Family Expo Trick or Treat

If you’re looking to have some family fun during the Halloween season, you and your kids will love this event. There will be competitions and games, plenty of Halloween-related activities, and even some entertainment for the parents. Even better, your children won’t have to choose between this event and going trick or treating in your neighborhood. The event will be on October 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Plano Event Center. A few activities will cost a small fee, such as a $5.00 fee for the maze, but admission to the event and its many games and competitions are free.

Plano Turkey Trot

The Plano Turkey Trot is a 5K run/walk that will take place early in the morning on Thanksgiving Day. It will be held at the Red Tail Amphitheater from 7:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. It’s a great way to have fun and burn some calories in preparation for the massive amounts of turkey, mashed potatoes, and pie you’re probably going to indulge in later in the day. If you have any little ones interested in the fun, there will be a 100-meter Kids Dash, which children eight years old and younger are welcome to participate in.

The city is taking part in this run alongside other cities across the nation, so there will be a live television broadcast and a national leaderboard where you can see your results. Unless weather conditions are dangerous, the run will take place whether it is bright and sunny or cold and wet. Although parking will be free, admission to the run will be between $29.99 and $50.00.

Events in Plano this fall include various activities for its residents. Whether you’re a foodie, someone who likes a night of great music, or someone who loves to get out and be active with your family, there are plenty of activities to take part in. Along the way, you’ll get to experience the lively culture and great people of our wonderful city.
