Dr. Harrison practices dentistry with art in the heart of Plano.

Plano. Hip or rustic? Whimsical or modern? Luxurious or historic? Are we in a small town or a big city? Is it chic or is it charming?

The answer is yes—all of the above.

Plano is all of that. It’s the perfect place for young millennials, families, hipsters, singles, couples, and people in all stages and walks of life. It is a city rich in art, culture, nightlife, culinary arts, recreation, and beauty. If you want to live in a small town but experience the benefits of city life, then Plano, recently named one of the “Safest Cities in America” and “Best Run Cities in America” by Law Street Media and 24/7 Wall Street respectively, could be your jam. In the heart of Plano, TX, is one of the jewels of modern dentistry: Millennium Dental. Run by Dr. Harrison, it serves all but specializes in high-end cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Jana Harrison, the owner of Millennium Dental, is a proud member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. She became a dentist because she always wanted to help people, and she loves that dentistry allows her to combine her aptitude in science with her creative and artistic talents.

Dr. Harrison has the opportunity to learn from some of the greatest dental minds across the world by traveling to seek out the best techniques and products in modern dentistry. Her many courses through the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry promote smile design and many other features, which help her patients achieve the beautiful appearances they desire.

Additionally, as an alumni of the Pankey Institute, Dr. Harrison completed coursework with a concentration on occlusion (how our teeth meet and work together) to create long-lasting restorations.

If you want a smile makeover but are hesitant because you want to end up with a makeover nobody but those closest to you will know you’ve had, then Dr. Jana Harrison is the dentist for you. Dr. Harrison’s greatest joy in life is making people beautiful—the “tears of happiness” from happy clients are her reward, and her work creating life-changing smile transformations speaks for itself. Dr. Harrison understands that no two smiles are alike. Indeed she knows there is no tooth in the world exactly like another so when she performs cosmetic dentistry she is truly practicing an exacting art within the constraints of science and medicine. That’s a tall order.

It’s an order to which Dr. Jana Harrison is equal.

To understand the heart of the modern dentistry work here at Millennium Dental, Dr. Jana Harrison takes us through a behind-the-scenes Q-and-A, so we can understand just how amazing her approach is to one of the most difficult and rewarding professions in the medical and dental world—cosmetic dentistry.

Interview with Dr. Jana Harrison

Q. What first made you think about becoming a dentist, and was there a moment when you knew for sure it was the right fit for you?
Dr. Harrison: I have always been interested in art and science. This is the best way to combine my two passions. I’m able to use my intelligence and creativity every day.

Q. What inspired you to become a cosmetic dentist specifically?
Dr. Harrison: I love to make things pretty. That includes people and their teeth.

Q. You’re known for being both a scientist and a creative person. How do these two sides of your personality work together in cosmetic dentistry?
Dr. Harrison: A good dentist is a good mechanical engineer. The mechanics of what we do is what creates long-lasting results, but I must be able to couple that with my artistic side to make the results beautiful.

Q. What was the first cosmetic dental treatment you ever completed? How did it feel to see the results?
Dr. Harrison: The first cosmetic case I completed was very early in my career in a small town south of Dallas. I really changed my patient’s appearance. She was so happy, and it really ignited my passion to create a positive change for my patients. I could see it was really a lot more than just correcting some broken teeth. It was about giving her confidence back.

Q. If you could tell your patients one thing about being a dentist or cosmetic dentist, what would it be?
Dr. Harrison: I am here to help you achieve your goals in the most comfortable way possible. I want your smile to be beautiful and last a lifetime.

Q. What does it mean to you to see your patients walk through your door in pain or embarrassed by their smile and walk out pain-free and happy?
Dr. Harrison: It means everything! A patient crying tears of happiness is really the greatest reward.

Q. What’s your favorite dental tool and why?
Dr. Harrison: Our new Trios Scanner is my favorite tool. It is so much more accurate than traditional impressions. It allows for a digital workflow, and our patients no longer have to endure messy impressions.

Q. If you could talk to anyone considering dentistry — cosmetic dentistry or modern dentistry as a profession, what would you tell them?
Dr. Harrison: I have and do talk to lots of young people considering dentistry; whether it’s administrative, assisting, dental hygiene, or becoming a dentist, it’s a great profession. It allows you to help people and be creative at the same time. It can also allow flexibility in your work hours if that’s needed.

Q. What’s your favorite thing about Plano?
Dr. Harrison: I love that Plano couples a small town, Texas feel with all the perks of a large city. It offers a great deal of cultural diversity. We really have anything you are looking for: live sports, the arts, great restaurants, and friendly people.

Q. Where is your favorite place to go, anywhere in the world, and why?
Dr. Harrison: The beach. It is just such a calm infinite place.

Q. When you’re not at the office, how do you like to spend your time?
Dr. Harrison: I love spending time with my friends. I have a few good friends I spend a lot of time with. I also love doing art projects of any kind.
